The show has already been extended by a week, plus 13,000 extra tickets were added, but that is clearly not enough to meet the demands of fans eager to see the now Olivier Award-winning Paul Mescal. It has just been announced that two extra shows will be added to the final week on performance on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd May.

The play, by Tennessee Williams, was first performed in 1947. It was made famous by the 1951 film adaptation starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando, and follows Blanche DuBois (Patsy Ferran in the upcoming run) as she visits her estranged sister Stella (Anjana Vasan) and husband Stanley (Paul Mescal) in New Orleans.

It soon becomes clear that Blanche is more fragile than she seems, and as tension builds between her and Stanley, the world threatens to unravel around her in the summer heat.

The show is directed by Rebecca Frecknall, who is best known for her multiple Olivier Award-winning production of Cabaret in 2021 which starred Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley.

In February, it was announced that the play would be moving to the much larger Phoenix Theatre for a limited six week run, after 12 weeks at the intimate Almeida Theatre.

Here at RadioTimes.com, we consider ourselves somewhat experts in the world of theatre tickets and we've rarely seen such a popular theatre show, with such high demand for the new run meaning ticket hopefuls were virtually queuing for upwards of half an hour.

It's been quite the couple of years for Paul Mescal. The actor rose to fame in 2020 for his role in the TV adaptation of Normal People, and has been in high demand for TV and theatre ever since, earning himself an Oscar nomination for his role in the film Aftersun, plus an Olivier Award for his role in this show.

How much are tickets for A Streetcar Named Desire?

There are limited tickets available from £15 for the newly added shows, but there's no time for dawdling. Most of what we would consider to be affordable ticket options for the existing dates are now sold out online, with the majority of tickets now available at the highest end of the price bracket — between £200 and £305.

There are also some options to buy these premium tickets with hospitality packages which include a number of extras, such as a programme, ice cream and a glass of champagne.

If you haven't been able to get hold of tickets within your price range, there are still options.

How to get £10 tickets for A Streetcar Named Desire

It's just been announced that a limited number of front row tickets will be available for just £10 for every performance of A Streetcar Named Desire. This is only available if you go the the Phoenix Theatre in person, and you'll need to be there at midday for matinée performances and 5pm for evening performances.

The first 30 people outside the theatre will be given a glow stick. Out of the 30, five glow sticks will be green when snapped. The lucky five will be able to head to the box office and each buy a pair of £10 tickets in the front row. That sounds like a pretty good deal to us!

There will also be a limited number of standing tickets available also for £10 for those who don't get a lucky glow stick. If you're London-based or have the free time, this is a great opportunity to get to see the show for less. Bear in mind that you'll have a few hours to kill between getting the tickets and heading to the show.

A limited number of £25 tickets will be released via a lottery on the show's official website. The next lottery will be happening on Wednesday 19th April. Each Wednesday, ticket lottery winners are selected before midday and are contacted directly.

You must buy the tickets within 24 hours of receiving the email, and the seats will be available on a first come, first served basis to lottery winners, meaning you've got the best chance of getting a good seat if you act fast — if you do win the lottery in the first place, that is!

Once you sign up, you'll automatically be entered into the ticket lottery every week. See the A Streetcar Named Desire website to sign up to the £25 ticket lottery.
